It is one of Hollywood's most iconic landmarks and a marvel of mid-century architecture. The Cinerama Dome is a movie palace like no other. For years, people have asked me to recreate the Dome in miniature, and I’m happy to announce that it’s finally happening.
This miniature is inspired by the theatre as it appeared on opening night in 1963, with It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World emblazoned across the marquee and striking Italian cypress trees flanking either side.
The Dome itself is made up of 75 individually 3D-printed hexagonal tiles, each one glued, grouted, textured, and painted by hand. The ticket booths and marquee are meticulously handcrafted from styrene plastic.
This is the ultimate display piece for LA cinephiles and is sure to become the focal point of any room.
Now, all we can do is hope the real Cinerama Dome opens its doors to moviegoers once again soon. After remaining closed since 2020, its prolonged silence has been a deeply disappointing chapter for a landmark that has welcomed generations of film lovers.
